I will usually try to create a special painting for at least one member of my family each year. This year I completed a piece for my lovely sister-in-law. I chose a lighter more feminine jar of Peonies as my subject and attempted to focus on the light fragmenting in the composition. The sides of the canvas were painted with gold leaf. I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out. The daisy painting below is actually something others can learn to! It's actually a lesson I use to teach at Michaels Arts & Crafts when I was a painting instructor in 2011. This year I framed it and gave it away as a gift to my husband's aunt. If you are interested in taking a class at Michaels leave a comment and I'll send you in the right direction.

Sometimes I post other creative activities that I participate in on my blog. Every year I participate in the Kansas City Chalk and Walk at the Crown Center Plaza in Kansas City, MO. The Kansas City Chalk and Walk Festival, a Missouri nonprofit corporation, conducts an annual (2013 will be 6th year), two-day event, which will showcase hundreds of professional, student and amateur artists who, on their knees (sometimes skateboards or lounge chairs), creating lively and powerful chalk “paintings” on sponsored brick canvas on the streets of Kansas City. This video is a compilation of photos from the event. Enjoy!
It's always fun when you get to take family portraits of old friends and their adorable family! I've known the Bazat's since childhood. A beautiful family on a beautiful day!
