Fall in the Midwest is my absolute favorite time of the year. I love the colorful foliage, the textures, the cooler weather and all the fun fall themed activities. This month I've been pretty busy and my husband and I haven't had a lot of time yet to enjoy this beautiful season. So this past weekend we took a trip with my in-laws to Powell Gardens that is just right outside of the Kansas City, Missouri area. For those of you have not experienced Powell Gardens before, it's a beautiful collection of gardens, meadows, waterfalls, fountains and art. It's an ideal location for a family outing, date night or wedding. This was my first time visiting the gardens (I know it's terrible I haven't gotten there sooner), and I was so absorbed in the beauty around me I got separated a few times from my family group. Luckily my husband was always right there to rescue me. :) My adorable in-laws! You might notice a lot of pumpkins in the background. That evening was Powell Gardens annual GLOW Jack-O-Lantern Festival. There were over 700 carved pumpkins scattered throughout the property. When the sun set they lit them up and many families strolled through gardens. We stayed later for the event, and I have to say it was just magical! Hubby to the rescue! Above is where he came around a corner to find me after I fell behind. I mentioned before Powell Gardens is an excellent venue for weddings. They have a variety of locations that would make for a beautiful outdoor wedding. But if outdoors isn't your ideal ceremony location, they also have a stunning glass faced chapel that overlooks the gardens. You can find more information on weddings at Powell Gardens on their website at www.powellgardens.org/Weddings. Surprise! I have a face! Below is my husband and I enjoying our fall stroll through the wooded part of the gardens. I'll just gush a bit. My mother in-law took the picture of us below. She has a natural eye for design and composition, including a green thumb! Her home garden is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen! Go Royals! Woohoo! This stunning garden below is actually created from entirely edible plants, herbs and vegetables! There is even a vineyard with a Mediterranean vibe that is a great location for events or weddings. Well that's the end of the ride! Powell Gardens definitely needs to be on the radar for tourists visiting the Kansas City area.
It's open all year round and the landscape is always changing with the seasons.
